Pocket Book Savings Tip of the Week for Feb. 2

Pack your lunch at home and take it to work, do not buy lunch out.

This is perhaps the easiest tip anyone can follow and it is a much healthier option than any fast food lunch you would pick up in a rush. Leftovers are the perfect lunch choice for people who work outside the home. All you have to do is prepare a little extra when you are making dinner and then after dinner simply put the extra into a small container to take with you to work the next day. The average cost of a “value meal” from any fast food place is about $4.50 for one meal. Let’s look at the savings over time if you stopped driving through the drive through window for your lunch:

1 day: $4.50
1 week: $22.50
1 month: $90.00
1 year: $1080.00

It’s unbelieveable that by simply packing some leftovers from your dinner the night before for your lunch can save you over $1000 a year! That amount is for one single person. Think about if you were a married couple with both people working full time. That would be a savings of over $2000 a year!

I know that there may be times that you don’t have leftovers, those are the days that you remember that you can never be to old for a good peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
